Is traveling independently a hurdle?
Virtual
public transport
lowers the barrier
Your pupils, neurodivergent clients, vocational students, or elderly people want to participate in society. However, crowding and unpredictability on public transport, as well as fear, pose barriers. Virtual OV offers safe VR training: realistic scenarios in which they learn to buy tickets, transfer, and manage chaos—step by step, at their own level.
From tension to naturalness – ready for the real world.
Neurodivergent VR Training: Independence and Self-Confidence
Your neurodivergent students or clients can easily become overwhelmed in busy public transport due to the intensity of stimuli. Virtual OV offers a low-stimulus VR environment in which they can develop their travel skills, without stress and at their own pace.
With every session, you strengthen them:
- Executive functions: Time management (transfer times), maintaining attention (reading the route), planning (buying a ticket)
- Procedural memory: Automatic check-in, holding the ticket, and exiting at the rear door become second nature through repetition
- Self-confidence: I ask the conductor myself where I need to get off.
Result: Step-by-step guidance to the real world.
Who is Virtual OV for?
Virtual OV was initially created for neurodivergent young people, such as those with autism, AD(H)D, or acquired brain injury. However, thanks to the safe, repeatable exercises in VR, the module proves effective for anyone who wants to strengthen their self-reliance in public transport. Whether they are new Dutch citizens, the elderly, or MBO students.

Easy implementation, powerful results
Our plug-and-play public transport training only requires a VR headset and the accompanying software. Our train-the-trainer program teaches caregivers how to optimally support clients using Virtual Public Transport.

Learning to travel on public transport
- Use a travel planner app or website to plan your route.
- Check in advance which bus or train you need to take, at what time and where you need to transfer.
- Identify important details such as line numbers, departure times, and stops.
Select the correct bus or train
- Check the information boards at the stop or station to see if your bus or train is arriving.
- Please pay close attention to the line number, the final destination and any changes in the route or departure time.
- Use your working memory to remember which stop to get off or change at.
Dealing with unexpected situations such as delays
- Stay calm if your travel time changes or a train is delayed. Check alternatives in the app or on the board.
- Be flexible: sometimes you have to take a different route or wait a while.
- Try to think of solutions, such as taking a different connection or asking public transport employees for help.
Social interactions
- Politeness to fellow travelers and public transport personnel.
- If you are unsure about your connection, ask drivers, conductors, or an information desk for assistance.
