How does Virtual OV?

Virtual Public Transport is an innovative VR training in which students or clients safely practice all important public transport skills step by step in a lifelike environment. But how do you implement it?

In the classroom: One student practices in Virtual OV with a VR headset. The image is live-streamed to the interactive whiteboard so that the whole class can watch along.

The teacher can interactively involve the group in the exercise, allowing everyone to learn along, even without being in the VR themselves.

1-on-1 guidance: The supervisor follows the client on a tablet and can provide immediate guidance during the VR exercise.

In this way, every step is guided and corrected where necessary.

Virtual OV: training in 8 levels and 2 challenge levels

From student transport to public transport

The Virtual Public Transport training consists of a tutorial and eight unique public transport levels. After every four levels, there's a challenge level where students independently demonstrate what they've learned.

Every trainee learns:

  • Reading signs, planning journeys and transferring between bus, tram and train
  • Pay with a bank card or public transport chip card
  • Dealing with disruptions, delays and finding alternatives in public transport
  • Making your own choices and reflecting on your own actions

Each level in Virtual OV takes an average of 5 to 10 minutes. Of course, one student or client progresses faster than another; everyone learns at their own pace. A maximum of 2 levels per lesson is recommended to maintain optimal concentration and learning outcomes.

Can't manage a level right away? Noproblem! They can repeat each level as many times as needed until the skills are fully mastered.

This is how they build self-confidence step by step, at their own pace.

The Companion App

Supervisors monitor progress live using the Virtual OV Companion App on a tablet. They coach, provide immediate feedback, and adapt the training to the student's level.

The app supports evaluation and debriefing, and makes differentiation easy, whether for a group lesson or individual training. Training with Virtual-OV is proven effective and makes independence achievable for every student.

How Virtual Public Transport Works

Virtual public transport for education, healthcare, and practice

Virtual public transport is suitable for schools, healthcare institutions, reintegration programs, and work-study programs. Schools can easily support multiple students simultaneously – the VR experience can be shared via the digital whiteboard, so everyone learns in a safe, structured environment. This makes independent travel by bus, tram, train, or metro accessible to everyone.
