Changeand InterActing:
Strengthening social skills and self-confidence
Why social situations can be challenging
For many young people with autism, social situations are not a given. Unpredictability, unwritten rules, and the pressure to 'fit in' can lead to stress, avoidance behavior, or a sense of isolation. Possible challenges include:
Insecurity in groups: Difficulty estimating social expectations or feeling a sense of 'belonging'.
Rigid thinking: Getting stuck when situations deviate from a 'script' or routine.
Sensory overload: Becoming overwhelmed by sounds, movements, or unexpected touches in social settings.
Communication: Difficulty with eye contact, taking turns in conversations, or picking up on non-verbal signals.
Fear of making mistakes: Being afraid of 'doing it wrong' in social interactions, which leads to avoidance.
Every young person is unique, which is why tailored guidance and practice essential.

How InterActing helps
TheInterActing Foundation uses improvisational theatre as a powerful tool to help young people with autism (aged 12 to 25) grow. Through playful exercises, sketches, and group activities, participants learn:
- Building self-confidence: Discovering that 'making mistakes' is okay and can even be fun.
- Developing flexibility: Practicing with unexpected situations, so that they are less likely to get stuck in rigid patterns.
- Strengthening social skills: Learning to listen, make eye contact, and say 'yes, and…' – skills that are directly applicable in daily life.
- Connecting with peers: A safe environment where young people feel understood and form friendships.
