General VR questions
What exactly does Changefied do?
Changefied develops gamified VR solutions for neurodiverse groups, such as people with autism or mild intellectual disabilities. Our training programmes, including Virtual OV, support independent travel, working and everyday functioning in social settings.
Who are our VR training programs suitable for?
For students in special secondary education (VSO), vocational education (MBO), and clients in care facilities with autism, mild intellectual disabilities or related neurodivergent profiles, aged 12 and over. Ultimately, it is for anyone who wants to increase their independence.
Why does Changefied use 6DoF VR technology?
Because 6DoF helps users transfer their skills to the real world. It creates a realistic, engaging experience, which is essential for neurodivergent users (e.g. autism, mild intellectual disability, acquired brain injury) who benefit from safe, repeatable training.
Virtual reality and motion sickness: what’s the connection?
In recent years, the VR industry has made enormous progress in reducing motion sickness, with considerable attention devoted to improving the technology and understanding its causes.
Why does VR make you feel sick?
Conflicting signals: Your brain receives conflicting information from your eyes and your balance system.
Depth perception: VR creates a sense of depth that your brain may not be able to process properly.
Fortunately, there are several approaches that can help reduce or even prevent motion sickness.
Here’s how we work on our games:
1. Improved hardware and software: VR headset manufacturers are continually working to improve image quality, reduce latency and minimize motion blur, helping to reduce the risk of motion sickness.
2. Optimizing motion algorithms: We implement advanced algorithms to regulate movement patterns and speeds, making the user experience smoother and more comfortable.
3. Use a comfortable environment: Designing VR environments with less intense movement and fewer rapid changes can reduce the risk of motion sickness.
What you can do to reduce motion sickness:
1. Make sure the room is well ventilated.
2. Eat and drink enough, but not too much, before putting on your VR headset.
3. Adjust the brightness of your VR headset to prevent sensory overload.
4. Avoid too much light in the room.
5. Adjust your headset’s interpupillary distance correctly.
6. Avoid turning your head too much or too quickly.
How are safety and privacy ensured when using VR?
Changefied does not collect or link any usage data from individual users to the platform. This means no personal data is stored or shared, ensuring users’ privacy is fully protected. This approach minimizes the risk of data breaches and allows users to train anonymously and safely in VR.
In addition to this strict policy of not collecting user data, Changefied complies with GDPR regulations and uses encryption for data transfers where appropriate. Changefied also prioritises physical safety by recommending a safe VR user environment and guiding users with training and support.
This strong focus on privacy, combined with a safe user environment and transparent communication, makes Changefied’s VR solutions reliable and secure tools for healthcare and education.
In short: Changefied deliberately collects no user data, complies with privacy laws, and creates a safe, controlled VR experience for all participants.
How does VR support executive functioning and independence?
Virtual Reality (VR) training supports the development of executive functions by providing a safe, controlled and repeatable learning environment where users can practise skills such as planning, decision-making, problem-solving and goal-directed behaviour. Realistic, experiential scenarios actively engage users in training cognitive functions that are essential for self-regulation and independence. This process reduces fear of failure, as mistakes can be made without direct consequences, while immediate feedback helps improve skills.
Recent research highlights that VR gaming and specific VR training programmes can improve executive functioning, including processing speed, task accuracy and quality of life, particularly for people with brain injuries or neurodivergence. VR simulations also help users practise stress management, cognitive flexibility and impulse control, contributing to better self-organisation and independence in everyday life.
Specific VR applications, such as the Virtual OV platform, train planning, problem-solving and focus in real-life situations (for example, traveling independently on public transport). The powerful combination of 6DoF technology provides maximum freedom of movement and realism, helping users transfer the skills they learn to the real world.
Is VR more effective than traditional therapy?
No. VR is not a replacement for traditional therapy, but a powerful complement to it. VR offers unique benefits: safe, repeatable exposure, realistic simulations and measurable progress. It enhances existing methods and makes training more accessible, scalable and effective for groups such as neurodivergent people.
VirtualOV
Virtual OV is a VR training programme for neurodivergent people (autism, mild intellectual disability, speech and language disorder, acquired brain injury) to build independence and social skills in a safe environment.
Neurodivergence & Virtual OV
Virtual OV is a VR training program designed specifically for neurodivergent people (autism, mild intellectual disability, language development disorder, acquired brain injury) to build independence and social skills in a safe, realistic environment.
Who is it for?
- Autism (ASD): Practise social public transport rules (e.g. asking for help).
- Mild intellectual disability: Visual, step-by-step guidance for everyday skills.
- Speech and language disorder: Practise communication in public transport scenarios.
- Acquired brain injury: Rebuild routines (e.g. travelling independently).
Age: 10+
🔹 Why Virtual OV?
✅ Practice safely, without risks in the real world.
✅ Repeatable until skills are mastered.
✅ Realistic thanks to 6DoF VR and gamification.
Who is Virtual OV for?
Virtual OV is suitable for neurodivergent people who want to practice traveling independently on public transport, such as people with autism or a mild intellectual disability. In addition to older adults, newcomers and vocational education students, Virtual OV is suitable for anyone who wants to build their independence on public transport.
Which VR headsets are compatible with Virtual OV?
- HTC Vive Focus
- Meta Quest 2, 3 and 3S
- Pico 4
These VR headsets have enough processing power to display the detailed, interactive Virtual OV environment smoothly. They deliver the performance needed for an immersive, responsive experience as users navigate virtual public transport scenarios.
Do we need an internet connection to use Virtual OV?
No internet connection is required for the basic modules.
You will need an internet connection for updates.
Can Virtual OV be used in education to teach citizenship?
Virtual OV makes abstract concepts tangible and helps students to:
Build independence (e.g. travelling independently).
Practise social skills. How can I learn to travel independently on public transport with Virtual OV?
Virtual OV simulates realistic public transport scenarios, such as:
- Getting on and off a bus or train.
- Buying a ticket from a machine.
- Asking a train conductor for help.
Benefits:
- Practice at your own pace.
- Repeat the exercises until you feel confident.
Which sensory stimuli can you adjust?
In Virtual OV, you can gradually build up sensory stimuli, such as visual bustle, sound, complexity and pace. The training is designed to regulate stimuli in a controlled way, so participants can practise safely without becoming overwhelmed.
Is Virtual OV a replacement for one-to-one coaching?
No, Virtual OV is not a replacement, but it is an effective addition. Safe, repeatable VR exercises help participants build skills faster, reducing the time needed for one-to-one coaching. This makes coaching more effective and cost-efficient without compromising quality.
